Staff Information
How do I contact someone at the church?
Call us at (757) 868-6842. You will be directed to the person to whom you wish to speak.

Worship Information
How many worship services do you offer?
We offer three worship services each Sunday morning. With three styles of worship to choose from, there is bound to be one that suits your schedule and matches your worship preferences. Click here for more information on our worship services.
Do you offer a nursery during worship?
Our free nursery is available all Sunday morning during all three services and during the Sunday School hour. Children up to four years old are welcome in the nursery.
Do you have a contemporary service?
Yes we do. Our Side Door Service is a contemporary service that meets at 11:00 a.m. every Sunday in the fellowship hall. Come in through the “side door” on the left side of the church to experience our casual, contemporary service.
How long are your services?
Approximately one hour
What should I wear?
Come as you are!
Do you celebrate communion?
Yes. Communion is offered to everyone in all three services on the first Sunday of the month.

History of the Church
How old is Tabernacle?
We’ve been around since 1817. That makes us 202 years old! We had a wonderful Bicentennial Celebration year in 2017 including concerts, parties, a talent show, and our main celebration with a combined service, church-wide photo, and a catered bicentennial lunch. We are planning another big celebration for our 225th anniversary in 2042.
What is the history of Tabernacle United Methodist Church?
Tabernacle United Methodist Church was formally established in 1817. It was called the Methodist Episcopal Church, and changed to Tabernacle Methodist Episcopal a few years later. Tabernacle became a station church in 1950 with its own full-time pastor. For more information click here.
Joining and Membership Information
Do I need to be a member to participate in church events?
No. All are welcome to participate in all church events.
Do I have to take a class to join?
No.
Do I have to walk up front to join?
No, you do not have to walk up front to join but we would be happy to recognize you if you are willing.
Can my children join when I join?
Yes.
Can you send me a copy of the church’s newsletters?
Yes. Please provide the church office with your e-mail address. If you don’t have e-mail, please provide your mailing address. You can also signup for our mailing list on the homepage of this website.

Yes.
Music at Tabernacle United Methodist Church
What musical activities are offered at Tabernacle?
Tabernacle offers a variety of musical activities: Chancel Choir, Women’s Chorus, Handbell Choir, Men’s Chorus, Joy Choir, Children’s Choir and the “Unshackled” praise band. Click here for details.
Information About Children
Can I get my children baptized?

Is childcare available during worship services and other events?
Free childcare is offered all Sunday morning. It is also offer for other special events as scheduled.
Do you have Children’s Worship Programs?
Yes, we offer children’s worship during the later part of our 11:00 services. Click here for more information.
Do you have Sunday School for children?
Yes. We offer Sunday School for all children aged 3 years old through the 5th grade. Children 4 years old and younger are welcome in our nursery during the Sunday School hour. We also offer a Sunday School class for youth (grade 6+). Click here for more information on our Sunday School.
Can my children join when I join?
